Day 1: Marrakech to Erg Chebbi Dunes
The first day of this 4-day desert tour from Marrakech to Fez begins in Marrakech. Starting early, you’ll head towards the stunning Erg Chebbi dunes. Along the way, you’ll enjoy diverse landscapes including mountains, valleys, and traditional Berber villages. The first stop will be at the village of Ait Ben Haddou, famous for its clay kasbahs and appearances in numerous films.
Continuing eastward, you’ll cross the Valley of Roses and reach the Todra Gorges, a perfect spot for photos and to enjoy a traditional Moroccan lunch. By the end of the day, you’ll arrive in Merzouga, where a camel ride awaits you at sunset to reach your desert camp. Spend the night under a starry sky in a Berber tent.
Day 2: Exploration of the Merzouga Desert
The second day is dedicated to exploring the Merzouga desert. After a stunning sunrise over the dunes, you’ll enjoy a hearty breakfast. Then, embark on a 4×4 excursion to discover the surroundings of the desert, including visits to nomadic villages and the opportunity to meet local inhabitants.
You’ll also visit Lake Dayet Srji, known for its birdlife, especially pink flamingos. In the afternoon, return to the camp to relax and enjoy a traditional dinner with live music. This is a perfect opportunity to disconnect and immerse yourself in the tranquility of the desert.
Day 3: From Merzouga to Dades Gorges
On the third day, bid farewell to the desert and head towards the spectacular Dades Gorges. Along the way, you’ll pass through the town of Rissani, an important trading center in the region. Here, you can explore the local market known for its spices, carpets, and handicrafts.
Next, continue your journey to the Dades Gorges, where you can marvel at the rock formations and stunning landscapes. This area is known as the “Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs” due to the numerous fortresses dotting the landscape. Spend the night in a charming hotel in the valley.
Day 4: Dades Gorges to Fez
The final day of your adventure will take you from the Dades Gorges to the historic city of Fez. Depart early to make the most of the day. En route, you’ll cross the beautiful Ziz Valley and pass through Midelt, a town famous for its apples and impressive mountainous surroundings.
Continuing northward, you’ll reach the city of Ifrane, known as the “Switzerland of Morocco” for its alpine architecture and well-kept gardens. It’s the perfect place for a brief stop before continuing on to Fez. Upon arriving in Fez, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the medina, a labyrinth of narrow streets and vibrant markets.
